Michelle DuBarry’s longevity has always been a bit of a ‘thing’ in the community. I can’t tell you how many times other drag queens have made friendly jibes at the gorgeous octogenarian. Let’s face it, we’re all jealous. Jealous because at 84 she’s still out and about in full glamour, but also jealous because her longevity is now enshrined.
On January 27, a small ceremony took place at Statler’s. Media and supporters gathered as Michelle opened the envelope containing the official certificate from the Guinness World Book of Records declaring her the world’s oldest living drag queen. Toronto is famous for lots of things, but this truly puts the Church-Wellesley Village on the world map.
Michelle, in a dark blue gown, entertained the media afterwards, clearly basking in all the adulation. As for the certificate, it will hang in a frame on a wall in Statler’s, her host bar. A bigger ceremony will take place in about a month to commemorate this landmark event. At a time when most people her age are incapacitated or deceased, Michelle DuBarry is still radiating glamour and classiness. That’s a record in itself.
