The last time we spoke to Yuri Ruzhyev, he had gone off and joined the circus. Circus Sessions took Harbourfront by storm last May. But now Yuri’s back doing what he does best, just in time for Pride.
On June 30, at both 7 and 10 PM, Yuri presents Viva Cabaret, his one-man show in which he channels (and impersonates) Liza, Tina, Cher, Madonna, Gaga, Freddy, Michael and over 20 other celebs. It’s a fast paced show, remarkable for Yuri’s talents as a quick change artist. I’ve seen it and trust me, the show rocks.
Yuri describes himself as ‘a recovering Russian’. He doesn’t just put on a show, he puts on a scene, replicating Weimar cabarets, full of decadence and sexuality. There’s dinner, drinks and even a post-show discotheque. Sounds like fun. I’m in.
Viva Cabaret plays June 30 at 7 PM and 10 PM at The Rivoli, 334 Queen Street West. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
