Vicks VapoRub: the multi-tasker 01 December 2017.
Vicks VapoRub was always in the medicine cabinet for most of us when growing up. The smell of eucalyptus oil and menthol, the most important ingredients in Vicks, relieve congestion and coughing when breathed in. There are also several different kinds of issues that can be eased by the fresh, strong-smelling topical analgesic ointment. Here are a few of them:
1.Soothes headaches, muscle aches, and earaches.
For headaches apply a small amount on forehead and rub in thoroughly. For muscle aches massage on the muscle, wrap in a dry warm towel and repeat 2-3 times a day. Finally, for earaches, rub a small amount on a cotton ball and place in the ear and leave it in all night
2.Treats toenail fungus and cracked heels.
For toe issues, apply 2-3 times day to affected area. For cracked heels, apply and massage before bed then wash and exfoliate in the morning.
3. Repel bugs and keep animals at bay
Rub on legs of furniture and corners of sofa to deter pets. Dogs and cats hate the small and it is nontoxic. To prevent pests, apply to clothing or skin to deter. The Vicks ingredient Cedarleaf oil is a natural repellent.
4.Heal bruises and minor cuts.
Mix equal parts of salt and Vicks to reduce swelling and inflammation of bruises. The mixture will increase blood circulation and dissolve discoloration. Cover with a bandage and reapply regularly. For small cuts and scratches Vicks prevents infection and is a good substitute for Neosporin.
Sufferers of hemorrhoids can find temporary relief from the pain and itchiness by applying a small amount of Vicks to the affected area. It will reduce the swelling and have a pleasant cooling sensation. It may sting or burn a little at first, so proceed with caution, and only use externally.
