Weekly Comedy Chases Away Winter Blues

The winter blahs have no chance against the weekly hilarity of the JokeBox Comedy Lounge, a refreshing way to start the week at the Comedy Bar every Monday night.

On Monday, February 4, the headlining sketch troupe is local act Vest of Friends (2011 Cream of Comedy nominees, 2011 Steam Whistle’s Brewing Producers’ Pick Award at the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival). The charming friends are Morgan George, Reid Brackenbury, Evan Richardson and Marc Hallworth. Originating at Humber College’s School of Comedy, the comedic quartet performs silly sketches based on their own life experiences, infused with just a touch of slapstick. Toeing the line between amusing and offensive with quick-witted cleverness, the foursome is always a crowd-pleaser.

The evening will also feature sketch comedy from local duo Sketch and the City, two funny ladies who explore various life experiences through the lens of multi-cultural women living in Canada. Stand-up comics for the evening will be Brian Finch and Sara Hennessy. Finch is a writer, public speaker and the founder of; he is an advocate for HIV awareness and a prominent member of the campaign. His fearlessness makes him an excellent storyteller and stand-up. Sara Hennessy (MuchMusic’s Video on Trial, JFL42, NXNE, 2012 Canadian Comedy Award nominee) has been a prominent and unapologetic member of Toronto’s comedy scene for over a decade. She continues to polish and refine her craft to the delight of live and online audiences.

The host for the evening will be Troy Stark (writer for The AV Club and performer at Fresh Meat 2012). Hailing from Prince Edward Island, Stark has lived many places and currently calls the Toronto stage his home. His casual and nonchalant style is winning over an increasing number of fans in the city, and he shows no sign of slowing down.

The JokeBox Comedy Lounge weekly series at the Comedy Bar is one of Toronto’s only variety shows combining sketch comedy, improv, and stand-up. The show also features a stand-up lottery, giving new comedians a platform on which to hone their craft, and an audience to cheer them on.
