Deko-ze and Neill MacLeod win coveted spots on legendary Green Space Festival line-up

Toronto, ON, May 8th 2014 – Green Space Toronto hosted its official pre-pride launch party last night to announce the Starry Night line-up and “The DJ Search” winner for the World Pride edition of the annual Green Space Festival in Toronto.

Green Space announced the top four drag queens from OUTtv’s RuPaul’s Drag Race season six who will perform at the World Pride edition of Starry Night: Courtney Act, Adore Delano, Bianca Del Rio and Darienne Lake. Ru’s finest will perform a not-to-be-missed World Pride welcome show at Starry Night. Joined by some of Canada’s best drag talent, each will perform two numbers. The World Pride edition of Starry Night will also feature the Queen of Montreal queens, Mado Lamotte.

Entering its seventh consecutive year, Starry Night, the official launch party of the Green Space Festival, is being hosted in Cawthra Square Park – located beside The 519 Church Street Community Centre (‘The 519’) – beginning at 7:00 PM.

To promote this year’s festivities, Green Space launched “The DJ Search” in April. An online contest, “The DJ Search” allowed fans to choose one of Toronto’s best to represent our city during the Green Space Festival: World Pride Edition.

After receiving over 2,500 likes and shares on Facebook, the winners were officially announced tonight. Deko-ze won the opportunity to spin at the coveted TreeHouse Party on Sunday, June 29. Runner-up, Neill MacLeod, won a spot to spin at One World on Friday, June 27.

“The Green Space Festival is The 519’s biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Tyler Fleming, Chair of The 519. “Last year, The 519 raised more than $2.45 for every dollar of City of Toronto funding, a record performance we hope to beat this year. The money we raise through events such as the Green Space Festival goes directly toward the vital programs and services we provide for Toronto’s LGTB community and the Church-Wellesley neighbourhood.”

The Green Space Festival is the must-attend festival during Toronto’s pride weekend celebrations, presenting a series of landmark events, including Starry Night (Thursday, June 26 – Cawthra Square Park), One World (Friday, June 27 – Cawthra Square Park), Main Event (Saturday, June 28 – Ryerson Quad), Lipstick Jungle (Saturday, June 28 – Cawthra Square Park), Disco Disco (Sunday, June 29 – Cawthra Square Park) and TreeHouse Party (Sunday, June 29 – Ryerson Quad).

“We are clapping our hands and stomping our feet with excitement over all of the music makers we are bringing to Toronto,” said Mathieu Chantelois, Honorary Chair of the Green Space Festival. “For the past seven years, Green Space has grown from a small series of events to a pre-eminent LGBT festival in North America. We became the place to meet, love, flirt, belong, celebrate and dance!”

The 519 also announced and thanked its 2014 Green Space Festival partners and sponsors, including: TD Bank Group, Ryerson University, OUTtv, Mill Street Brewery, Brown Foreman Canada, NATIONAL Public Relations, BLU Energy, Eska Water, Downtown Subaru, Shangri-La Hotel, Loblaws, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Xtra!, IN Magazine, and Fugues.
