Bollywood star Celina Jaitly has won the Miss India beauty pageant, been a runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant, won a PETA Humanitarian Award and is the tourism ambassador for Egypt. Her greatest accomplishment is upcoming on Sunday, June 28 when she will lead the Pride parade as the International Grand Marshall. While not LGBT herself, Jaitly has been a tireless advocate for India’s beleaguered queer population even in the face of death threats and government censure. In 2013 she was endorsed by the United Nation Human Rights Office which named her a UN Equality Champion. Jaitly’s Bollywood-influenced video for the UN Free & Equal LGBT equality campaign is the most watched video ever produced by the United Nations. "For a society to be truly progressive," says Jitly, "We need to embrace everyone as ‘one,’ not categorize people into first and second class citizens based on their sex, caste, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity."
