Search resumes for man who disappeared in water
off Cherry Beach
The Toronto Police Marine Unit resumed its search Monday for a man who disappeared in the water off Cherry Beach over the weekend.
The 35-year-old man was out on a boat with friends when he dove into the water around 5 p.m. Sunday, about 100 metres from the Outer Harbour, and didn’t resurface. One of the fellow boaters, an expert swimmer, dove in after him but couldn’t bring him to the surface.
The marine unit ended its search for the man after three-and-a-half hours.
And tragedy struck in the water north of the city over the weekend. A 29-year-old Toronto man was killed in Wasaga Beach Sunday.
He was hurt while riding a personal watercraft around 6 p.m. and was rushed to hospital in Collingwood where he was pronounced dead.
Police are still trying to determine exactly what happened. The man’s name hasn’t been released
