Religion and rock music come together in Jesus Christ Superstar, Andrew Lloyd Webber's legendary rock opera about the betrayal of the Messiah by Judas Iscariot, followed by Christ's passion and resurrection. The musical comes to the Stratford Festival with direction by Des McAnuff and performances by Paul Nolan, Chilina Kennedy and Josh Young.
With lyrics by Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar focuses largely on Judas' concerns that Jesus' fervent following has gone too far and may inspire violence between Israel and Rome. The songs include "I Don't Know How to Love Him," "Everything's Alright" and "What's the Buzz?"
