FLOORING PART 3 (GO GREEN!)

Some great options for sustainable flooring now exist at affordable prices.  You don’t have to settle for low quality or character to help protect our increasingly endangered environment.

Bamboo flooring offers the same look as hardwood, but in a more modern take with a new attitude.  Bamboo is just as durable if not stronger, the flooring installation is very similar and now pricing is more in line with your hardwood options.  Bamboo is considered a renewable resource because it can mature in growth in less than 10 years.  Compare that to the hundreds of years that trees in the rainforest have taken to mature and you can see why bamboo is a winner.

Cork flooring is also a great option.  Cork can come in a variety of colors and intricate details that add character that can’t be beat.  The price is reasonable and the durability is outstanding.  You can get creative with patterns as they often come in various tile sizes.  Who knew cork was for more than wine bottles?

When purchasing your next carpet product, see if the installer or manufacturer has a recycling program, and most do nowadays.  Go for carpet made of renewable natural resources.  This helps eliminate off-gassing (that new carpet smell is actually bad for you and your health).  Try and use non-toxic glues and adhesives when laying your various flooring and save your lungs a bit!

Be green, save the planet, and install some hot new environmentally smart flooring.
