As exciting as it is that iPhone will have cut & paste and MMS messaging with the new 3.0 software (finally…only at an Apple press conference would people cheer cut and paste like it’s something revolutionary), there are some other interesting things being uncovered.

While there have been rumors of a new model iPhone coming in June, there’s actually two new iPhone models – and a few new

iPod touches!  It seems that the 3.0 version of the iPhone and iPod Touch software provided to developers has uncovered the same product code "iPhone2,1" in addition to an even newer "iPhone3,0." For reference, the iPhone 3G is identified as "iPhone1,2," so these alleged new models would be the first in the iPhone line to be a different model.

Could it be the long rumored iPhone Nano?  Whatever it is, the jump in model number indicates something completely different, not just a 2G to 3G upgrade.

As for the iPod touch, the current model has the "iPod2,1" designation, but models "iPod2,2" and "iPod3,1" have both been pulled out of the new 3.0 OS version. June is widely speculated as the time that we'd be seeing new iPhone models, right about the time that 3.0 is released to the general public, so we don't have to wait too long to see if there’s any truth to this.
