Sony PSP Go

After 4 years on the market, Sony has finally redesigned their PSP game system to include a hard drive instead of a UMD disc based system.  While this will upset retailers (some stores refuse to carry it), here’s how the system performs overall.

Design & Hardware:  The PSP Go is more than 50% smaller than the original PSP, with a slide out bottom that houses the control system.  The control system has been squished in slightly but seems to work well.  Additionally, Bluetooth has been added for tethering from a cell phone.

Software:   All games are now downloaded from the online store, but Sony is not allowing us digital copies of disc games we’ve already purchased (bad move Sony!).  There are a few other new software features such as the calendar and clock while the system is in the “closed” mode.  Currently you can’t add appointments to the calendar but that’s likely just a firmware update away.

It’s a rehash of the older system but at least you don’t have to go to the store to get your games.  The system sells at most retailers for $249.99, but call ahead to make sure they actually stock it: it’s the system that may end of their business.
