Brooke Lynn Hytes: True North Strong & FIERCE
04 Feb 2019.

“This has been a dream, a decade in the making and I can’t believe it came true! Thank you for all the love!” said Brooke Lynn Hytes on securing a spot on RuPaul’s Drag Race.

While no date has been announced for season 11 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, one thing is for certain, Canada will be there in full form. Brooke Lynn Hytes, no stranger to MyGayToronto.com and a former Miss Continental pageant winner, has made the cut and will join 15 other contestants in a battle for top queen.

Brooke Lynn Hytes non-drag name is Brock Hayhoe, who some had considered to be the reigning queen of Etobicoke, danced with the drag ballet company Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo and is a graduate from the National Ballet School. No stranger to performing throughout clubs in Toronto, Brooke Lynn has been splitting her time between Canada and the states developing her career and clearly, it’s paid off.

Aside from the $100,000 cash prize for winning ($130,000 Canadian), the honour of being a contestant of RuPaul’s drag race is enough to elevate her to superstar status. Just about every queen who has gone on the show has returned a celebrity and now has a name that alone is enough to fill a venue. But the RuPaul Drag race machine doesn’t stop there, there are the appearances around the world matched with a marketing team making sure everyone knows when any of the girls make the slightest move.

Drag has come a long way from its early days when it was tucked away in the back of dark gay bars and so too has Canadian drag. Our country has long since been home to some incredible talent, and thanks to Brooke Lynn Hytes, we all get to share in her win.
