The Paul Bellini Film Festival

29 Nov 2019.
 -

Yes, the rumours are true! After months of incubation, the idea for a Paul Bellini Film Festival has come to fruition at the hands of producer Amy J Lester. After witnessing first-hand how Paul has been challenging himself as a filmmaker as well as challenging the very process of making films, his attempts to get them screened at traditional festivals has proved fruitless, which Amy elaborates on in a recent interview with My Gay Toronto, “Seeing Paul’s frustration with our films being too unique to be showcased properly by traditional ‘film festivals,’ it occurred to me that we'll just have to bring the festival to the people.”

Paul’s films are comedies wrapped in politics and served up with the purest form of indie film there is, guerilla style. This collection of Canadian-made films features some of our city’s craziest artists and combines footage from a wacky variety of sources including scenes shot in the actors' homes, isolated footage from Paul’s own building’s security system, green screen collages, scenes shot entirely on smartphones and all underscored by original music sung by Paul. Every Friday night screening starts with an introduction by Paul Bellini followed by a double-feature of “Christmas Sucks,”  the world’s first movie for grinches, paired with either "The Eplet Triplets," "An Irrelephant," or "Gone, With The Wind." The location is as arty as it is intimate and when Amy, who also stars throughout the films, first pitched the idea to Eyesore Cinema, they jumped at the chance to showcase his films and a new, truly indie festival was born.

The Paul Bellini Film Festival runs the first three Fridays in December 2019. Capacity is limited, arrive early.
